Tiger Air is getting many no cool service calls and when we get to the clients home we are finding dirty clogged filters and a service call could have been avoided if the filter was clean. We ask people is the filter clean and they say ”yeah I just changed it a couple of weeks ago” and we look at it and it is totally jammed with dirt and show it to the client and they say well maybe it was longer than two weeks and surely we both know it was.   This is a common complaint we get all the time in very hot high humidity weather as we just experienced in the Cleveland Ohio area. This is due more from the humidity level than the temperature your air conditioning system cannot remove the humidity from inside your home fast enough to get the humidity level down so the house can start dropping in temperature. Tiger Air Heating and Air Conditioning has several service calls with this exact problem and some people had newer systems of only a couple years old and there was nothing wrong with them the problem is more in the structure of the home such as windows and insulation and the tightness of the home. Most air conditioning systems are not sized for this abnormal weather of a few select days but are sized for the majority of days.

This is a some what common problem as in the industry it is called dirty sock syndrome. This is from the manufacturing process when the indoor evaporator coil was made the metal will oxidize over time and cause this odor. Some manufacturers have zinc coated their coild to help eliminate this problem. Tiger Air was on a service call in Bay Village a couple of years ago and we thought this was the problem for sure, we installed this HVAC system 8 years prior and was still under warranty so we changed the coil out and had the exact same problem. What we ended up finding out was the homeowner only has the problem when she was washing clothes and what was happening is the drain was backing up and sewer gas was coming up from a seperate sewer opening right next to the furnace and it was sucking sewer gas into the house. The homeowner called the city of Bay Village and they hade a partial blocked main at the street and this corrected the problem.

  Air conditioning freon is raising in price fast due to the governments expidited face out of R-22 refrigerant. This was not going to start happening until about 2018 with a total phase out of 2020. A possible reason for this is that the government banned the manufacture of R-22 HVAC equipment and the HVAC manufactures found a loop hole in the law and started  manufacturing R-22 HVAC equipment again and shipping it dry meaning with no refrigerant in it to get around the law. And there is speculation that the government has responded to this by expiditing the phase out of R-22 refrigerant by putting large federal taxes on the sale of R-22. This will cost homeowners greatly in repair costs as many have refrigerant leaks and will be faced with a very high cost to recharge their HVAC system and at some point will be forced to replace their equipment.

  Almost every home has this problem it is very common. People call us and say the room above are garage is to hot or one of are bedrooms is to cold in the winter. These are air flow and duct work problems from when your home was built. Many people think right away the problem is the furnace or air conditioning system when it is not. Your home does not have enough return duct work going back to the furnace blower to remove the hot air in the summer to let the cold air come up properly. You can try running your furnace blower on the fan on setting and letting it run for a few days and see if this makes a difference in some cases it does by constantly removing the air from the home and distributing it back giving you more even temperatures and if this corrects your problem you can have a variable motor installed on your furnace so you can run it on constant fan on at less cost. If this does not solve your problem then you will need a duct renovation for your second floor to correct this problem.
